The Art Spirit Gallery at 415 Sherman Avenue in downtown Coeur d’Alene will open Black Thumb, a show of charcoal and ink drawings by Elaine Green on November 12 with a reception from 5-8 in conjunction with the Coeur d’Alene 2nd Friday Downtown ArtWalk. Everyone is welcome! This show runs November 12-27.
On Saturday, November 13, Elaine will give a charcoal demonstration from 1-3:00 in the gallery.

Short Biography
Elaine Green is a Northwest artist whose work has been included in numerous exhibits throughout the region including the Boise Art Museum, Utah State University, and Clatsop Community College in Astoria.
Green was born in St. Maries, Idaho, in 1958. After studying art at Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Washington University, Green earned her MFA from the University of Idaho in 2005. She has been an art instructor in the Spokane area, and served most recently as adjunct faculty with the Department of Art and Design at the University of Idaho. She moved to Corvallis with her husband in the fall of 2008.
This is the third solo show of Elaine Green’s work at The Art Spirit Gallery.

It begins . . .
. . . as an observation...
the juxtaposition of burnt field and pale ochre hay
. . . as a memory...
he was encircled by a metal ring with weights suspended from it,
hanging from his body by a leather shoulder harness
doing squats over red shag carpet
. . . as an exploration...
the steam boiler plant with its wrapped pipes and valves
It begins as a question
Sometimes it’s just a desire to make flesh: lumpy, aging, luscious flesh
with imperfections...the too-large man hands and too-dark appendages
It is often a struggle, a conflict, looking for resolution in the messy gray
